BEAST WARS NEO BIG BLACK CONVOY. 1999 TOYSR'US JAPAN EXCLUSIVE

Hello fellow followers! So sorry for slacking off posting on my blog lately. Been busy with office work and added to that, am a proud owner of a new Honda City 2013 Modulo car! The added responsibility that comes with owing a new set of wheels is both exciting and nerve-wracking as most of you will know. Yay! Ok folks, enough about these two non-Transformers events, as important as they are in one's life, it's time to blog on a very special item that I have been actively scouring for sometime now, to be precise, a good SEVEN years to this day.

He is none other than the uber-exclusive Toys R' Us Japan exclusive repaint of Beast Wars Neo Big Convoy, also know as his 'body-double' of sorts. So glad to have snagged him at a fairly decent price that what he normally goes for in the collectors market-- complete with unused Bio and missiles, as well as the added bonus of having gotten his box in fairly decent condition.

Brief info from Transformers Wiki:

Beast Wars Neo
A redeco of Beast Wars Neo Big Convoy, Black Big Convoy transforms into a mammoth, and is somewhat infamous for being an extremely difficult-to-transform shellformer, as practically all of his beast mode components are shells that fit around the compressed robot to form this mode. As such, he has no leg articulation in this mode, but has a rubber trunk which can be controlled by pushing a lever on the top of his head. In addition, the his tusks can be moved by pulling back either of his ears. Black Big Convoy technically has a beast "attack mode", in which his cannon is folded out.
In robot mode, Black Big Convoy stands slightly shorter than the Beast Wars Ultra Class Lio Convoy and Optimus Primal toys, but makes up for it by being absolutely chock-full of weapons and gimmicks. First and foremost, the spring-loaded cannon, formed out of the beast's head, back, and tail, can fire two missiles from two barrels in succession with a rotating dial. It is held in his hands via 5mm post and can be stored on his back, though doing so may cause some stability problems owing to its weight. Second, his shoulders can be swung up to reveal sculpted, non-firing missile pods. Third, he has flip-out tonfamelee weapons in his forearms. Fourth, the two beast panels on the sides of his legs feature two spring-loaded missile launchers that fire his anchor-shaped projectiles, (similar to the original Beast Wars Ultra Class Megatron toy) and the missiles can be loosely held as melee weapons. Last, but certainly not least, his chest panel flips down, revealing the first-ever removable Matrix toy accessory, vacuum-metalized gold with an opaque orange center. This accessory can be held by any figure with standard 5mm fist holes.
Black Big Convoy was sold in the regular Big Convoy package, with a sticker indicating that it was "Black Big Convoy".
This mold was also used to make Universe Nemesis Prime and Timelines Ultra Mammoth.

Bandai 1:144 HG Gundam00 66 00 QAN[T] + GN Sword IV Full Saber + Special Decal

Hi folks, just a quick update on my latest mini-project which I am eagerly waiting to get started on!  Picked up the 1/144 scale Gundam QUAN[T] 00 Full Saber model kit recently as a side-project to 'hone' my GUNLPA building skills, or so to speak. The kit itslef - meaning the robot is nothing spectacular to look at, to be honest, but once the good folks at Bandai decided to add the GN Sword VI Full Saber to the mix, the 00 Quat  instantly becomes a whole new level of awesome. In addition to the kit, the full set from which I bought off a Hong Kong seller off Ebay also comes with specialized water slide decals for a touch of 'detailing' on an otherwise bland kit. Personally, I absolutely adore the limitless level of customization when utilizing these excellent decals, which can only be a good thing to making your GUNPLA model stand out on your display shelve/ cabinet.

GN Sword  Full Saber Kit weapon pack for HG Gundam 00 Qan[T]- available separately from Hobby Japan February 2011 edition.

With he full kit plus additional decals arriving sometime next week, it should be a rather satisfying and fun build, one which I am really looking forward to see it through with maximum commitment and whose end result hopefully will turn out better than I expected.  Stay tuned!

TRU Masterpiece Hasbro Optimus Prime spotted in Malaysia!

Hi guys! Recently a couple of days ago, (Last Friday) I decided , as per usual to go toy hunting or this particular  bad-boy. And Guess what?! Talk about luck of the draw! * Went to a major TRU Malaysia branch in KL and found:-* Hasbro Masterpiece Optimus Prime!!!!

He didn't come cheap thou as these were brought in directly from Hasbro Asia Hong Kong and cost the roughly the same in HK$, which was around HKD 1,200 roughly $200! Almost the same price as the Takaratomy MP-10 but in person the blue eyes effect is beautiful! Brings life to the toy! In addition,  at first I was scared off by the price as well...but then I decided that if this is indeed going to be 'a one off' and very limited release of MP-Hasbro Op in Malaysia (they only brought in SIX pieces!) so there and then, I decided to shell out approx RM599.99 for it without hesitation in the end!

Differences known between this and Takratomy's version are :  richer blue plastic used, the scout 'Roller' is blue instead of silver and the eyes are painted, not to mention the grey plastic used is lighter. It gives the overall look much more accuracy compared to his Japanese counterpart.

More details and price/ release dates here! Check it out!

Tokyo Toy Show 2012 Exclusive Terrorcon Bumblebee

AM-Terrorcon Bumblebee, the AEON Japan score exclusive arrived last week! Came in a rather 'smallish'-box and compact figure - sharp matte black finish makes the toy awesome!  Translucent purple eyes and headlights and teal arms and legs complete the 'Evil' Bee look. Perfection. Story goes that Bumblebee was corrupted by 'Dark Energon' and thus it was too much for him to bear till his soul became dark and unrepentant!

Oh hei! Another black/ teal Nemesis/ Terrorcon repaint for me to grab!

More details and pics here!  and from Robotkingdom.com!

UPDATE!!
A recent Twitter pic from Takaratomy! @ TF YUKI!

Wow. that's a beautiful black repaint. XD

The Black Repaint Craze Continues: TV Magazine Exclusive Galaxy Force Dark Nitro Convoy.

Oh hai. there...Cannot help myself lately.... Bought a Galaxy Force Dark Nitro Convoy..

  • Dark Nitro Convoy (Deluxe, 2005)
It's no surprise what Dark Nitro turnsinto.
JackpotAdded by Jackpot
redeco of Override, Dark Nitro Convoy transforms into a sleek Velocitronic race car. The rear section reveals flip-out (non-firing) blaster barrels when you insert a Cyber Planet Key into it; this assembly becomes Dark Nitro's rifle in robot mode. Transformation from car to robot is partially automatic, the torso and arms automatically swinging into position once the springs are released.
Dark Nitro Convoy comes with a fairly unique Cyber Planet Key. Though it is a gold-bordered Velocitron-style Key, it is cast from colorless clear plastic, like the clear-plastics on the main toy. It is unknown if this is a gang-molding issue, or if Dark Nitro was given a specifically color-changed separate-mold Key.

MACROSS 1/72 SUPER MESSIAH VALKYRIE ALTO CUSTOM - MODEL KIT!

Hi guys! Another quick update which I am super excited for! Just got myself a real big challenge as far as building model kits are concerned... Ordered myself a 2009 Bandai 1/72 scale Super Messiah Alto custom. Granted there will be loads of work to be done when it arrives, but inspired by the sudden surge in confidence in my wanting to test my plastic-kit building ability to the fullest. Wish me luck! Sorry for the stock pics, people. Will definitely post some work in progress and (hopefully) finished pics--! when it arrives at the end of the month!
I think because of the complexity and tedious nature of the kit itself- the estimated time taken to finish building the complete kit - decals and painted model and all - will approximately take me a good two weeks to complete. That's a good and long 2 weekends- assuming I begin working on it diligently on Saturdays and Sundays! Oh man, what on earth did I get myself into?! Meantime here's the order details, courtersy of the online shop from which I bought this monstrosity of a model kit from!  Details are in HK Dollars, so when using the currency exchange rate, the total paid for this plus shipping to Malaysia would be in the region of RM280. A fair price, IMHO. :D

I know and am very well informed that there's been the recent release of the Alto Renewal version, and a Chogokin and super improved version of the Messiah Alto Renewal Ver. by Bandai lately, but the awesome challenge and design of this particular 1/72 model kit is too good to ignore. Plus obviously, the positive thing about building plastic model kits is that although there is no room for errors in the sense if you slip-up and break something of importance from the spruce of the kit,   you are essentially in deep trouble; but once assembling the kit piece by piece, it kinda gives the builder the 'imagination' and drift from reality -- a sense that he/she is actually 'building' a complex Mecha from inside out- pistons, inner frame and all!  IMHO all Three modes- the Fighter, Gerwalk and Battroid modes are well done and made for a plastic kit. The decals might be a pain to put on, and some parts are unpainted like the visor on the bot head, and antennas, but it's those little attention to details -- strangely which I find myself wanting to put more effort into, personally to make my kit my own customized and special toy.

2012 Million Hero Publishing Generations Artfire Revealed!!

SO sorry for slacking off and not updating my blog on a regular basis, guys! Well, just to post a quick update of sorts--Millionhero, the uber-cool Japanese publishing house that has brought us countless TF: Generations styled books, is at it once again, this time by offering another exclusive figure to go with the new release of the latest Generations 2012 Vol. 2 book.

Yes, folks, the toy in question is none other than another toy and character repaint of G1 Inferno--in the form of a homage of the original Targetmaster Fire Truck  that had a limited run in the original Generation 1 'Manga'  - the one they aptly called Auto-fire or Artfire.  If anyone is unfamiliar with this Targetmaster character, it's probably also due to the fact that aside from being obscure, his toy was the last of the series released sometime in the late 80's. Hence the reason also that he commands ridiculously high prices-- read $3,000 to $4,000!!-- on the secondary market. Talk about crazy prices-eh?! Personally, I wouldn't want to fork out that insane amount of dosh for something as simple and straightforward as an white Inferno body-- with a simple Targetmaster -- but hey, more power to those who can and are willing too.

Anyway, going back to this exclusive release, It will come bundled with not one but two- Microns / Targetmaster buddies in the form of 'Nightstick' and 'Sparks'-- both a repaint of the Target masters which came with Henkei/Classics Cyclonus and the Powercore Combiner toy- of which I can't really remember top of my head at this point of time...

This retails-- minus the book and sold separately-- for around USD$ 140- plus shipping- and really- it's not a too bad a price and decent for being a limited run figure. Obviously this is for hard-core completists and those who are more privy or  only collect exclusive campaign or lucky- draw type toys. I've already secured mine, and the tentative release date for the book is sometime this month, but the toy will only hit us collectors at the end of the year?-- what?! sigh oh well...anyway... looking forward to getting it and adding this awesome homage Artfire to my collection!  Stay tuned, folks for more upcoming news / reveals on Artfire as the time passes!

CYBERVERSE COMMANDER LEGENDS CLASS TRASNFORMERS PRIME SET OF 4! OPTIMUS, MEGATRON, BULKHEAD AND STARSCREAM!

Hi there, folks! Just sharing some recent Transformers Prime stuff I bought on a whim while waiting some of the more 'heavier' and most anticipated toys (i.e Botcon, a second Vintage C-327 Victory Leo) to arrive soon. These are mini-marvels of the toy engineering world when it comes to the level of accuracy with their on-screen counterparts. FYI these are part of the Prime: Cyberverse Commanders toys for Wave 1. These distribution of figures for this introductory wave consists of four very awesomely made incarnations of Bulkhead, Optimus Prime, Megatron and Starscream. All four were recently released sometime in the middle of January 2012, and ahve been generally well received by fans all over.

As usual, the whole gimmick or purpose of the Cyberverse line is to be simplistic and fun when we fiddle with the transformations. All four are accurate to their bigger voyager and deluxe versions, and they are great additions despite their being smaller sized.  Personal favorites  of the four would be Bulkhead and Starscream, simply because the both of them have been given quite strong and interesting character development. Some silver sharpie/ hobby metallic paint would do wonders for covering up the translucent weapons that come packaged with the individually carded toys.

On another note, am seriously thinking of buying the whole Takaratomy versions of the main-line Robots in disguise (RID) Prime toys, as they would be packaged together with Arms Microns/ booster weapons to add more fire-power and playability to the line, as compared to the regular versions of the Hasbro Prime RID which has also hit shelves recently.  IMHO, the Japanese just know how to sell and market their toys and cater to all discerning adult and hard-core collectors.  Granted, they wont be cheap to import over, but worth the price for the bonus weapons alone. Takaratomy will also make an exclusive Japan-only toy of Skywarp, albeit being a repaint of the First Edition Starscream deluxe toy. Overall the colors are much more sharper and made from less duller plastic and that is another plus point for me.

Final Thoughts:

Cannot say enough positive things about these Prime Cyberverse Commander toys. Simple, intuitive and not to mention cleverly made, I do highly recommend them being added to one's collection.
