2012 Million Hero Publishing Generations Artfire Revealed!!

SO sorry for slacking off and not updating my blog on a regular basis, guys! Well, just to post a quick update of sorts--Millionhero, the uber-cool Japanese publishing house that has brought us countless TF: Generations styled books, is at it once again, this time by offering another exclusive figure to go with the new release of the latest Generations 2012 Vol. 2 book.

Yes, folks, the toy in question is none other than another toy and character repaint of G1 Inferno--in the form of a homage of the original Targetmaster Fire Truck  that had a limited run in the original Generation 1 'Manga'  - the one they aptly called Auto-fire or Artfire.  If anyone is unfamiliar with this Targetmaster character, it's probably also due to the fact that aside from being obscure, his toy was the last of the series released sometime in the late 80's. Hence the reason also that he commands ridiculously high prices-- read $3,000 to $4,000!!-- on the secondary market. Talk about crazy prices-eh?! Personally, I wouldn't want to fork out that insane amount of dosh for something as simple and straightforward as an white Inferno body-- with a simple Targetmaster -- but hey, more power to those who can and are willing too.

Anyway, going back to this exclusive release, It will come bundled with not one but two- Microns / Targetmaster buddies in the form of 'Nightstick' and 'Sparks'-- both a repaint of the Target masters which came with Henkei/Classics Cyclonus and the Powercore Combiner toy- of which I can't really remember top of my head at this point of time...

This retails-- minus the book and sold separately-- for around USD$ 140- plus shipping- and really- it's not a too bad a price and decent for being a limited run figure. Obviously this is for hard-core completists and those who are more privy or  only collect exclusive campaign or lucky- draw type toys. I've already secured mine, and the tentative release date for the book is sometime this month, but the toy will only hit us collectors at the end of the year?-- what?! sigh oh well...anyway... looking forward to getting it and adding this awesome homage Artfire to my collection!  Stay tuned, folks for more upcoming news / reveals on Artfire as the time passes!

WING SABER TOYZ SPECIAL: TRANSFORMERS GENERATIONS (Wave 3) BLURR! SPEED KING!

Hey there laddies and gentlemen from the world over! This is WSX once again here to dish out a random blog post on the Transformers and various other mecha-related toys which have managed to somehow or rather, find their way into the ever expanding collecton of yours truly. The toy and character in question is none other than the recently made retool/ repainted version of the newest Autobot Drift Transformers character to hit the mass market, the Samurai-warrior, evil assissin turned good guy. Well folks, although Hasbro is kind of 'infamous' for merley 'just' churning out straight and 'lazy' repaints of their past series of toys, it seems that the days of just shodddily and hap-hazard decisions to frustrate the fans have since been long gone in recent times.

Rejoice and just enjoy the ride, folks, for we will be seeing even more stellear releases of the beloved characters in the uber-awesome Hasbro 'Generations'  &; 'Transformers United' Takaratomy toy line in the coming months and from next year onwards!  The latest inqusition for me is none other than the speediest and fast talking character to ever hit the franchise:- Blurr!

DONT' BLINK!
BLURRED EFFECT

Blurr was known as a speedster and highly annoying incarnation form the moment of  his introduction in the nowcult classic that is the 1986 Transformers Movie.  Blurr is the fastest Autobot on land. He was used primarily by the Autobots as a high speed messenger. Blurr was also portrayed having extremely fast speaking mannerisms, and a nervous streak when dealing with his superiors. Despite this he is a loyal warrior and friend. When he became a Targetmaster he was paired with Haywire, an impulsive and excitable Nebulan youngster.[1] With his top speed of 800 miles-per-hour, Forbes named Blurr as the fastest fictional car in 2008.[2]

IDW INCARNATION:-
BAD-ASS BLURR FTW!

The folks at IDW Publishing just broke the mould when they decided to give the fast talking Blurr some serious' circuity' overhaul of his personality. He is now known to be one of the most prominently reinvented Transformers characters for the modern fans. So much so that Hasbro/Takaratomy decided that an honorable update was needed in toy form. More on the spotlight can be linked and credited to these sites here and here!  Although the Blurr Spotlight was released sometime ago, in 2008 to be precise, the character's fortunes were revived for better or worse! LOL. So, with that-- kindly enjoy the preview, folks!

SNIPER EXTRODINARE?!

The Generations toy for Blurr does share the same similarities in terms of trasnformation scheme of that of the mould he was made from, Drift-- obviously, but the subtle changes made especially the newly moulded and comic design head really makes a heck of an astehetically pleasing difference. I love the IDW-esque fins/ wing -like extensions from the side of his head. Very fitting dontcha' think?! The sniper rifle and dual pistols make Blurr an ever thougher proposition than before, and not only can he weild his pistols, he gets to combine the smaller guns as a 'tripod' placment holder for his giant, killer rifle- ala the elite assissins type of feel.  It's an added feature thant makes the toy that much cooler, not to mention deadlier to any unfortunate  Decepticon foe that Blurr might take on!

GenerationsBlurr (Deluxe, Released August 2010)

Accessories: Sniper Rifle, Dual pistols

A big kudos to the designers as this gives the feel and look of Blurr being an actual 'new' character, instead of a crappy straight repaint. In addition, I must admit that the blue in two hues when in car mode while looking sharp (can you tell I love the colour blue?!)--  not to mention the added spoiler on the back of the car makes it look swift, I can't help make a small 'gripe' of sorts when it comes to the overall paint and Quality Control of the current wave of toys that are now being supplied and made in China. Paint is quite smudgy, especially in some cases the grey used on the front bonnet-- not to mention the white parts on the car roof is of poorly applied quality as well. Talk about minor dissapointments! Personally, as a serious collector, the buck should stop in terms of the shoddy QC control. No excuses as although these toys are mainly made in bulk quantity for the young target auidence, nonetheless, most collectors are in need of a more 'solidly made' toy in a manner of speaking.

FINAL THOUGHTS

The designers really made Blurr's robot mode stand out with his newly remoulded head. Add to the fact that  the toy looks and feels like a truly separate character, and a  double-gun wielding, sniper-skilled Autobot, and you've got yourself a winner. The baby blue and  white parts really match Blurr's traditional G1 colour scheme well, to the point of me saying that the overall look, feel and sturdiness is a notch higher than his previous incarnation of the the mould that is Drift. His painted Autobot symbol on the roof of the car hood and chest later in his bot mode is a nostalgic touch. Sure, Drift was cool, but Blurr's joints somehow are tighter and more balanced when posing him in various action shots! Get him ASAP in-order to update your Classics/ Generations collection in your shelves! A+

WING SABER TOYZ SPECIAL: TRANSFORMERS GENERATIONS-(ドăƒȘフト)=/=( DRIFT)- BUSHIDO WARRIOR!

Hi there, my faithful readers from all over the world! A very warm welcome once again to uber blogger and friendly guy, Adam aka WSX! This time, I thought that I should blog about a really "obscure"-- by that I mean this Transformer has a slight infamy of being "the black sheep" of the venerable series of Transforming robots far back we=hen he first debuted on the pages/ creative mind of his creator:  IDW's Guido Guidi &  Shane McCarthy!  Although his development has been two years in the making, when the Drifts character was introduced, many of the fans were skeptical and the response was rather tepid.  The preliminary design pictures, however, told a whole different story. A new hero was born!

============================================================

UNPOPULAR CHARACTER?!

This character was initially  (and still is to some quarters of the fandom) ,considered a non-official member of the Autobot/ Transformers original mythology.  I cant fault those hard-core fans as they have their own take and belief system on what constitutes as being a "true" or core character. As for me, I have been somewhat neutral to this incarnation as this character is starting to gain some smidgen of respect and likability, as the folks at IDW publishing have rather impressively cobbled together Dirt's "background" and story amongst the plethora of back-stories of some of the most beloved Transformers characters.  Yes, although the secret's out that his creators set out to portray him as a former mercenary and cold-blooded killer of all things Autobot; the formula of repentant Decepticon's have not really been explored as deeply as that of Drift's, if memory severs me right! LOL! I think as an independent character, he totally rocks, and personality wise,  some of the detractors can band him and pigeonhole Drift as being a Samurai/ warrior wannabe. Well, it's their loss, IMHO, and a definite gain to his new-found legion of fans, your's truly included!

"Drift (ドăƒȘフト Dorifuto) was not always an Autobot. In fact, he slaughtered quite a few when he was known as the DecepticonDeadlock. But Deadlock's eyes were opened to what the Transformers' war had become when he stumbled across a lost faction of neutral Transformers long since forgotten. He discarded his ruthless ways, abandoned his guns for swords, and changed his name and appearance. When Drift returned to the Transformer war to make right what he put wrong, he was a bot of few words and disciplined action.
These days, Drift is a member of a ragtag team of rebels under the command of Kup, working alongside many members of the disbanded Wreckers. Because of his brutal past, Drift isn't well-liked or trusted by a few of the Autobots. The rest don't seem to care, or are genuinely impressed by his incredible skills, so long as they're used against the other side!"

============================================================

DRIFT IS GIVEN DUE RESPECT!

Initially given the fan-made and third-party maker response, Drift finally "made-it" and earned a relatively  faithful representation and transitioned from page into the form of an all-action, poseable plastic toy of himself. I had gotten wind that a "simultaneous" USA and ASIA release for the latest wave of Transformers toys, specifically the "Hunt for the Decepticons" or Transformers Mover 2 Ver. 2.0; plus the G1 redux or Generation's line  were hitting the shelves of the toys'r'us retail outlets in Malaysia,  there was no stopping me from getting the two characters I wanted badly, with the other most wanted being Generations Decepticon seeker, Thrust.  Stalking the store worker was not an option, as I I had to do was ask the store Manager to pull out those deluxe toys from their freshly shipped boxes.  I can attest that personally, there is nothing like being the very first people/ person to be in line for a newly launched and sought after merchandise. Pulled by the local mall after work and waited patiently for the tags to be stickered on.  Was tempted to pick myself TWO Drift toys, but alas, I stuck to my original plan and saved myself some Ringgit while I was at it.
His toy details are as below:-

Toy Line:- Generations

Comes with a gun that shoots swords.
Drift has arrived!
  • Autobot Drift (Deluxe, 2010)-
  • * Released 22 June 2010

    • Accessories: Two "dual swords", one large sword
Drift transforms into a genericised Nissan Silvia S15.[1] In vehicle mode, Drift's two shorter "dual swords" store inside his doors (which double as his hip sheaths during robot mode), while the larger sword stores in a set of grooves on the underside of his vehicle (also used in robot mode). Behind his windshield kibble is his pre-Earth chest design, in a nod to the form Drift had been seen in almost exclusively at the time of the toy's unveiling. Due to his ball jointed wrists, Drift is one of the few Transformers figures that can hold a sword with a two-handed grip.
While Drift's Earth mode designs showed him sporting the katakana ドăƒȘフト ("drift") on his car doors, the toy instead sports the kanji 䟍 ("samurai"). The large sword sports the kanji ć€©äž‹ç„ĄćŒ (tenka musƍ, "peerless under heaven", or just "peerless" if you're not feeling idiomatic.)

IDW Publishing initially claimed that Drift had been solicited by Hasbro to receive a toy in the Universe line. This may have been premature, as it was followed several months later with a denial, albeit from Hasbro's Australian offices.[2] This was rebutted by IDW editor Chris Ryall at New York Comic-Con 2009, denied again in the March 2009 Hasbro Q&A for Seibertron.com[3], and finally acknowledged by Hasbro at BotCon 2009, when early design sketches were unveiled for Drift's toy. The toy itself was first shown at Toy Fair 2010.
Drift's mold will be retooled into Generations Blurr

AWESOME INCARNATION!

The designers really made  Drift's robot mode feel  pretty sturdy when in one's hand. Transformation is pretty straight-forward, and there are a dozen steps in all. It takes about 5-10 minutes to transform him from his drift-racing car mode. Looking every inch like the Bushido warrior ready to charge into battle, he is strong and fearless. The randomness in the emergence of this out of mythology character was rather a fortuitous event, not least because it took only two short years for Hasbro's approval  to be made into an awesome and kickass toy.  Just painted the sword hilt with Gold Gundam markers, as well as some of Drift's detailing on his face and legs to make the Robot mode stand out  and have some slight personality. there are some minor gripes in that the hip=kibble can be a hindrance to the poseability factor, but  to me, it's not really a big issue. All in all, this is just  a fun toy to play with, and as a" stand-alone" robot, he is a great addition to any Transfans' collection!  Buy it now! A+
