WING SABER TOYZ FIRST POST OF 2012! GUNDAM AGE [1]- 1/144 SCALE - NORMAL TYPE- from 機動戦士ガンダムAGE

11:13 PM in 1/144 SCALE, 2011 RELEASE, AGE, Gundam, High Grade, New Release

Welcome to the first post for 2012!  Been slacking off in terms of posting and updating the blog,so sincere apologies to my readers and those following closely!  I trust that you guys had a great New Year celebration?! Well have a small 'resolution' of sorts for the New Year,  and thought that wanted to get into the groove of watching another Gundam series besides the slower paced/ darker melodramatic release that is Gundam Unicorn . Saw this uniquely less 'saturated' version call Gundam AGE, and lets face it , while it may not be as super complex as some of the past Gundam series: I'm looking at you S.E.E.D!, it certainly takes a fresh look and spin to the franchise with the animation style leaning towards a more 'youthful' core of characters. Sure, GUNPLA Builders had a set of kids as a major plot line too, but something about the art style for AGE is more 'sophisticated'

Intro to the AGE series:

''Mobile Suit Gundam AGE (機動戦士ガンダムAGE Kidō Senshi Gandamu Eiji^?) is a 2011 Japanese science fiction anime television series and the twelfth incarnation of Sunrise's long-running Gundam franchise. The series is first announced in the July issue of Shogakukan's CoroCoro Comic, and has gaming company Level-5's President Akihiro Hino in charge of the story.^[1] The series was officially unveiled by Bandai on June 13, 2011, during a special event at the 2011 Tokyo Toy Show. Gundam AGE premiered on the MBS and TBS broadcasting stations in Japan on October 9, 2011.^[2] The series is set in a futuristic Earth and is centered on the war that plagued the earth for centuries. Only a Family linage can protect everyone by using the legendary mobile suit known as "Gundam".

The staff behind Gundam AGE is also the same staff members who created the previous series Mobile Suit Gundam 00 excluding Seiji Mizushima. Susumu Yamaguchi, the director of Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory and Sgt Frog is in charge of the direction of the series. Michinori Chiba and Takuzō Nagano were both in charge of the character designs of the series while Kanetake Ebikawa, Junya Ishigaki, and Kenji Teraoka are all contributing to the mechanical designs.^[4]''

Whoa, never realized that the makers of AGE too made Keroro Gunso!  Mecha Style/ design for the main AGE [1] Gundam unit is interesting, in that it has subtle hints of the RX-78 Gundam's roundish shape. A great nod and homage to the original Gundam model. very cool I must say!

Decided that I am going to get the GUNDAM HG 1/144 > Gundam Age [1] - Gundam AGE-1 Normal  version to add to my collection.  Looking to get this if you're in Malaysia, then go and check out this uber awesome source website, low prices great deals on the latest kits. http://www.gundam.my/detail.php?productid=1138

WING SABER TOYZ SPOTLIGHT: Gundam RX-78 1/144 REAL GRADE! BACK TO THE FUTURE!

2:24 PM in BANDAI JAPAN, Cultural Phenomenon, Gundam, RX-78, up-coming release. not in collection

Hi there boys and girls! Welcome humbly to yet another random post form your internet friendly neighborhood blogger, Adam aka WSX!  This time on the agenda is yet more Gundam news goodness, as the super promotional campaign by Bandai Japan to rejuvenate it's 'gold-mine" of a mega franchise has taken on a whole new level of awesomeness.  What could be more of a fitting tribute by the Bandai folks than to re-introduce their best-selling plastic model kit of one of the most iconic and original Gundam Mecha that started it all? Sure, the release of the ultra-poseable 1/144 scale  RG (Real Upgrade) series  may be tiny in stature  (HG size); but has it more than makes up for it by having (MG) high level of detail exterior and articulation at the same time. For the uninitiated, REAL is a acronym that stands for Revolutionary Extra Advanced Level. Where do these guys ever come up with this kind of stuff in the first place?!

MINIATURE WONDER!

What makes it special its the intricate level of toy engineering and how far the Japanese model makers have come since the early days of the 70' through 90's.  To be able to make one of the more smaller fast selling kits and incorporate what is essentially a shrunken down level of a bigger Master-Grade version is in itself a major milestone and achievement. To me, the way forward for the majority of GunPla - model enthusiasts is one of total excitement , rejoicing and blessing.  The bygone era of mediocre and cheap-looking underwhelming 1/144 Gundam model are now safely be meant to be locked up and forgotten in the past! I can remember a time when in the early to mid 1990's I was caught up, like most of you guys out there, in the Gundam wing phenomena series. Good times, but somehow, the level of satisfaction and play of those 1/144 models didn't quite cut it for me.  Thank god for modern toy making applications.

SMALL BUT BEAUTIFUL

Intricate movable, joints and internal "mechanisms" are the main selling point of this model, no questions about it.  IN ADDITION, THE INCLUSION OF HIS CLASSIC AND DEFAULT WEAPONS  SUCH AS
 THE "BEAM-SABER" AND PARTICLE RIFLE, are included as well, adding a level
of nostalgic and anime accurate factor to the release. Awesome!
Judging from the picture above,  the whole model kit will be most likely fairly easy to fix up, most likely only taking a good hour to complete from box to finished robot-- so it doesn't hinder any patience and time issues- perfect for lazy GunPla modelers for myself! Add to the fact that it's affordable price  of  2,500 Yen (or approx. RM 93) is a real steal when you think about it, the bargain is really worth while.

=========================================================

CULT STATUS MECHA!

"The RX-78 Gundam is the iconic Gundam mecha design, introduced in 1979 in Yoshiyuki Tomino's and Sunrise's anime series Mobile Suit Gundam. In Mobile Suit Gundam, it is a testbed weapon for the Earth Federation, when it falls into the hands of Amuro Ray, the son of a weapons designer, who goes on to pilot it in the Earth Federation's war against the Principality of Zeon.

As the success of Mobile Suit Gundam began the Gundam franchise, this design was the first of many variations in subsequent works. The design appearing in Mobile Suit Gundam, called the RX-78-2 Gundam serves as the iconic symbol of the Gundam franchise and sparked the creation of its multiple sequels and spinoffs. As part of the 30th Anniversary of the Gundam series, the company officially announced a project on March 11, 2009 called Real-G planning to build a 1/1 real size scale Gundam in Japan, it was completed on the June 9, 2009.^[2] It was dismantled in early September 2009."
=========================================================

HIGH MOBILE PERFORMANCE?!

Any Gundam and Japanese person worth his value would appreciate the re-emergence of Bandai's most valuable creation to date,  regardless of their personal favorite designs of other Gundam versions that have graced the venerable series and pop-cultural phenomena that has stood the test of time over the last few decades.  This is the way forward and future of hobby collecting and modelling.  The fans are going to spoilt for choice, which is not necessarily a bad thing. LOL!

FINAL VERDICT

THE INCLUSION OF THE "CORE FIGHTER"  COMBINATION  GIMMICK - I.E. SMALL FIGHTER PLANE THAT PLUGS INTO THE CHEST OF THE MAIN TORSO OF THE RX-78 GUNDAM IS THE FINAL INGENIOUS PUZZLE IN THE JIGSAW.  ADD TO THE CULT-STATUS AND REVERENCE OF THE WHOLE GUNDAM FRANCHISE, AND IT'S UNMISTAKABLE AND INFLUENTIAL PLACE IN POPULAR CULTURE HISTORY,  THIS  IS A MUST BUY FOR ALL FANS, INCLUDING MYSELF! A++

WING SABER TOYZ SPOTLIGHT:- BANDAI SHCM-PRO: -1/144 SCALE GUNDAM UNICORN!

10:45 PM in BANDAI JAPAN, DESTROY MODE, Gundam, Homage, not in collection, UNICORN

Hi there, guys and girls out there! Thanks once again for dropping by the random blog of yours truly, Adam aka WSX. I must admit, that the release of  even more accurate, super-poseable figures has had an effect on my hobby collecting ever since. Lately, my shift from being a non-fan to one who has been converted-- is solely due to the sheer brilliance and  flawless toy-engineering put into these highly collectible items.

 I am happy to report is that, (aside from those who are totally into Gundam plastic kits), which to the casual hobbyist like myself, will always be a total pain in the deriere' to fix up, the utter convenience and level of pre-painted and ready made Gundam toys which are available is  heaven-sent in more ways than one. I did recall that the Bandai SCHM-Pro Gundam Unicorn "perfect" edition sitting by it's lonesome self on the shelve of the toy department in the Bangkok department store sometime last year.  It looked really swell and a good buy, but of course, being the more savvy toy collector that I am, the price-- all 9,000-odd Baht, came up to a ridiculous amount of Ringgit Malaysia (RM) 900!! All for a 1/144  scale

(or 13 cm) model made of plastic! The original price, however is about 1/3 that high price of RM900.

=============================================================

UNICORN GUNDAM LIVES!

Like a true blood-hound, ol'  WSX has been sniffing around the online sites especially those Japanese ones, all in the name of looking for that killer deal. Although released last year, the general consensus is one of positive disposition. high praise is once again reserved for this particular incarnation of the popular Unicorn Gundam figure. I had, in the beginning, absolutely NO idea  that the new series of Japanese novels starring the Gundam Unicorn saga,  was in actual fact  to coincide with the 30th Anniversary celebration and homage of sorts to the hugely influential  and cult-status mania for the original  Gundam Series of 1979.  That in itself is a really cool nod and a fitting re-imagining of sorts, if you will, that the series has made a true return to its roots. Heck, even the main protagonist form the Gundam Unicorn saga, Banagher Links (バナージ・リンクス Banāji Rinkusu^?) is a direct dead-ringer for the original emo-pilot teenager Amuro Ray' that first piloted the original RX-78 Gundam back in the early days.

===============================================================

I AM NOT A GUNDAM BUILDER!

Well, the fact of the matter is, I have zero skill and tolerance to build Gundam model kits. I'm afraid it's just simple as that, really! LOL! That theres not shame in owning up for my particular flaw. As passionate as I am for a certain hobby, I am more a Vintage Transformers collector, and only dabbling in the pain-staking and agonizingly long and patient process of building Gundam plastic kits once every blue moon.  Its too much of a hassle, but to some the mere victory and satisfaction of seeing plastic parts being built up into works of art. I applaud and respect those uber crazy-skilled and the most professional of model kit-bashers.  the level of detailing, painting and effect is mind-blowing.

SHCM PRO- THE "PERFECT VERSION" THAT IS READILY BOUGHT?!

In a nut-shell, this is a very aesthetically and practical version of this particular Gundam.  the quality level is unmatched. Add to the additional parts/ weapons.  The coolest feature that the folks at Bandai have managed to achieve is the seamless ability for this SHCM-Pro Unicorn 1/144 scale model to transform into the "Destroy mode" for the default white and less powerful Unicorn mode, into a bad-ass ballistic "psycho-frame" Gundam! Awesome touch, and this is for me, anyway, THE definitive version that should be bought if you have the additional monetary funds. Since this is on sale, and can be bought off the Amiami Japanese English language website, it looks awesome. Its on my to get list, and to be patient, I will wait until the price drops to around 7,000 Yen  mark before making my purchase.  This is a must for all Gundam fans, and the overall design of the Gundam Unicorn mecha is very pleasing to mecha fans as well. A must buy! A++
