WING SABER TOYZ SPECIAL: Tokusatsu (Sci-Fi) Revoltech No.024 Iron Man (アイアンマン) Mk.VI [Kaiyodo]

The name's Stark, Tony Stark..but you can call me....IRON MAN!

Hello guys and girls from the world over! This is your resident nut job  passionate toy collector WSX here once again to present a humble purchase which has cought my attention this past couple of months. The character in question which need no introduction to those who are very familliar with the Marvel Comics brand of Superheros is going to drool over Revoltech No.024 Iron Man  (アイアンマン) Mk.VI!  It's been in the works since last year, and yours truly -although finding out late of it's release, just couldnt let this one slip through my fingers! I just had to obtain it.no matter the cost!

This beauty follows in the footsteps of the previously random- yes I know Kaiyodo does not seem to follow a particular formula/ strategy when they plan on releasing the next (Tokusatsu) or superhero name in their much impressive line of super-poseable action figures that is Revoltech, but this release is for those who, naturally again- wont want to shell out huge amounts of $$ for the bigger Hot Toys 12 -16 inch Movie Accurate Iron Man figures. I digress...but the bottom line is that the pain job on this action figure height Iron Man Mk.VI looks gorgeous- and apprently this has a limited first run of production. It's sold out EVERYWHERE and the only way to get your hands on this model is by going to online to Ebay..but as usual, when sought after hot items are concerned, be prepared to pay a premium price. No quarters given!

Technical Data:

Product Name
Tokusatsu (Sci-Fi) Revoltech No.024 Iron Man Mk.VI [Kaiyodo]

Manufacturer Kaiyodo

Release Date early Mar-2011

Product Line Tokusatsu (Sci-Fi) Revoltech

Original Title Iron Man

Specifications Size: approx. 155mm in height

Details Optional parts:

Flying mode effect part (display base) x 1

Effect (repulsor ray) hand part x 2

Optional wrist x 4

Name plate x 1

Final Say:

This is yet another stellar release from the very talented folks at Kaiyado. I paid a slightly more premium price for him, but the extras that come packed with this version of Iron Man Mk. VI sure is worth the price alone. For me personally, the addition of the 'Repulsor' Ray beams makes the figure look complete and alive, jsut like his on-screen and comic counterpart. Id say that the only minor gripe is that Kaiyado did not include a 'tony Stark' head ala Kyaido Revlotech Batma's Brece Wayne alternate head as an added measure of realism. Nevertheless, positive sales and glowing initial reviews have made this Iron Man MK VI a erally, really desirable toy! Bring on WAR MACHINE! A+

WING SABER TOYZ SPOTLIGHT: GOT BATS?! REVOLTECH- BATMAN (THE DARK KNIGHT) MOVIE Ver!

Hi there, folks! Welcome to yet another random thought-blog post from yours truly, Adam aka WSX!
For me,  and many vast fans out there, it's been yet another momentous and joyous occasion that there are more and more REVOLTECH figures which are both unconventional and unique, that the creative and inspiring folks at Japanese toy-maker Kaiyodo are churning out at a frantic pace!
I can hardly catch my breath! PHEW!

===================================================

HAVE REVOLVER-JOINTS, WILL TALK!

Who would have thought, that after dabbling quite successfully  in mostly Mecha figures, that Kaiyodo has begun a separate/ sub-line of super-accurate and highly detailed (not to mention poseable, to the hilt, of course!)-- a batch of mostly supernatural/ Sci-Fi  and even heroes from popular culture, both Eastern and Western?! The sky is the limit when it comes to redesigning / creating an endless stable of awesome sculpts and characters, and this time REVOLTECH  has upped the ante by first  previewing the possibility for an awesome take on on of Comic-dome's most beloved and revered anti-hero/ Justice avenger cum Detective: The Dark Knight: Batman.

===================================================

BATMAN FOREVER!

The ultra-detailed suit crafted for this particular REVOLTECH Batman figure is top notch, and even can be likened as sort of a "shrunken-down" non-scale version of the hugely popular Hot Toys Hong-Kong "masterpiece" version.   Of course, without being too obvious, whilst the bigger counterpart offers more in the way of value, superb quality and not to mention detailed size, the smaller REVOLTECH version is no slouch in the value for money department. It's only going to cost 1/6th of the price of  its bigger cousin, but it sure can save you Batty Bat-fans a whole lot of money. Something which doesn't have to burn a huge gaping hole in one's pocket, but its just as treasured and invaluable.

======================================================

PRE-ORDER'S UP!

As usual, the online stores have started taking pre-orders for REVOLTECH Batman, and the price is pretty standard as far as this release goes.  The accessories that are bundled together with this release include an interchangeable "Bruce Wayne" alter-ego head, the Bat- Grappling Hook Gun, (bronze-gilded) Batterang, and a few set of interchangeable hands for added measure.  Oh, and the "emo-face" sculpt is an a nice detailed touch, LOL!  The pictures are linked/ credited to once again (man, I love this site!) been buying like non-stop due to their superior prices and shipping costs! - where else but Amiami Japan!
Hmm, gotta add them to my links on my blog! LOL!

WING SABER TOYZ SPOTLIGHT: REVOLTECH YAMAGUCHI Series No 085: UFO Robo Grendeizer!

Hello there folks, this is yours truly WSX just giving YET another random musing and blog post for today. Basically, as I have previously and humbly mentioned, I will be occasionally putting up some toy and Mecha spotlights that I am particularly fond of or just having some memories of them. There is no exception to the rule of thumb, simply because im very sure that most hobbyists or collectors have their own limits, be it time and space, not to mention other real world commitments to handle, mortgages, car repayments and insurances. But im thankful that I am still able to occasionally indulge in the love for my hobby, albeit due to the fact that my circumstances are at present, rather non-committal..PHEW! ;-P

The inspirational and super influential Go' Nagai-sama!

This time, WSX would like to give a HUGE NOD OF APPRECIATION to one of the most iconic and early recognized 1970's mecha that was the catalyst for the sudden influence and inspiration for the Super Robot genre in Japan ever since.

GRENDIZER INTRO:- WIKIPEDIA

UFO Robot Grendizer (UFOロボ·グレンダイザー UFO Robo Gurendaizā?, sometimes romanizedas UFO Robo Grendizer) is a super robot TV anime and manga created by manga artist Go Nagai. It was broadcast on Japanese television from October 5, 1975, to February 27, 1977, and lasted 74 episodes.[1][2] The robot's first appearance in the United States was as a part of the Shogun Warriors line of super robot toys imported in the late 1970s by Mattel, then in Jim Terry's Force Five series, both under the title Grandizer. It is still widely popular in the Middle East and was especially popular in continental Europe and in the province of Quebec under the title, "Goldorak.

GRENDIZER GETS THE REVOLTECH TREATMENT!

I love to admire the technique which the Japanese modeling and Otaku sculptors handle the production process of certain dynamic and iconic Mecha and various characters with extreme reverence to the original source material. As with this February 2010 release, the team at REVOLTECH has yet again delivered another solid and beautiful sculpt. Basically, the Yamaguchi series epitomises a more dynamic and "jazzed-up" versions of famous Japanese characters. IMHO, quality rules the day!

PAINT SCHEME AND OVERALL IMPRESSION:-

SHARP, BOLD AND METALLIC COLOUR SCHEME. WHAT'S NOT TO LIKE?! STAYS FAITHFUL TO THE ANIME ROBOT MODEL, AND CAN AS USUAL, BE POSED IN A SUPER-DIMENSIONAL WAY..(whatever THAT means! LOL!)

MINI STATISTICS ON RELEASE:-

* 120mm tall. 17 points of articulation, 11 Revoltech joints used.
* Double Harken can be separated
* The Screw Crusher can be connected to each other
* Harkens on the shoulders can be detached. Different compatible ones are included for the weapon (Double Harken)
* Weapons and accessories: Double Harken x1, option hand unit x4, Screw Crusher x2 (left and right), display base x1, RevolContainer x1, RevolChip worth 10 points x1.

February 15th release, 2,400 Yen (inclusive of tax).

WSX VERDICT?

STRICTLY FOR FANS-DUH!  :-p

Promotional test-shots

Hello once again, good people who visit my blog! Many sincere thanks for keeping up with my updates, no matter how inconsistent my postings are! LOL! Well, I am sure that many of you are wondering about my hiatus -- well, truthfully, I have since returned from a short holiday of sorts to the "City of Angels" of the East: Bangkok-- So, I guess after all that spicy and stomach churning food escapades, and countless hours and money spent on souvenirs, it is rather fitting that on my last night there, I managed to obtain the one item that is synonymous with the word "Angel" -REVOLTECH YAMAGUCHI SERIES NO. 076 - EvANGELion 2.0 Eva Test Type-01 Awakening Ver.

Frantic scouting for toy and hobby shops in Thailand, especially in a so-called modern metropolitan like Bangkok can take a heavy toll both physically and emotionally-- mind you, its definitely not a collector friendly place, as I can personally attest to. Nevertheless, the mini-review will just concentrate on the type of release, poseability, and aesthetics, spare parts and finally playability and value for money.

Beware: I'm Coming to GET you!

THE MINI REVIEW:

The first thing you would notice is the bigger-and spiffy Revoltech box which has the tried and tested "window" view display. This allows you to see the awesome figure, plus its plethora of accessories, which in this case has the standard interchangeable head, hands and of course spare parts and weapons. Kaiyodo has once again borrowed heavily on the current Anime OVA and movie which needs no further introduction to seasoned fans of the Evangelion Series and Franchise, as the EVA unit was featured in the now released 2009 theatrical version Evangelion 2.0 : You Can (Not) Advance / (ヱヴァンゲリヲン新劇場版: 破 Evangerion Shin Gekijōban: Ha. The figure is draped in a flash of bright neon colours, mainly bright purple with a hint of orange and red to finish off. Black accents are used to "break" up the body parts/plates gauntlets/ to make the figure even more bold and gives it a much fiercer look. Well, IMHO... it kinda resembles a sea creature slug or more commonly known as a ..... "Nudibranch". -_- u

Arrgh! My Arm!

Yeah, I dunno, I kinda see the colour scheme and the reason I look towards this analogy--(not to think too deeply into the context--of course)-- is that this colour scheme for the "REAWAKENING EVA-UNIT 01" means that its basically warning its enemies that its a "bad-ass" killing, non-feeling machine-- even though it is piloted by a human being.

Text taken from Wikipedia :

"Among this group can be found the most colorful creatures on earth. In the course of evolution, sea slugs have lost their shell because they have developed other defense mechanisms. Their anatomy may resemble the texture and color of the surrounding plants, allowing them to camouflage (cryptic behavior). Others, as seen especially well on chromodorids, have an intense and bright coloring, which warns that they are distasteful or poisonous (aposematic coloration).

As with most Revoltech figures, they are super-poesable, interchange - bendable and most importantly, sturdy and virtually unbreakable." For me, Personally, the colour scheme works well, in the sense it gives the figure a much more sleeker feel than its original counterpart. It also comes with the"default "Berserker" head sculpt. Big bulging eyes and a "psychotic" gaping mouth-- which opens and closes when moved. Hmm...going "ape-shit" and all nuclear in order to save the world, perhaps? Or maybe he is "possessed" by the "essence" of an evil and malicious "Angel" I cant say for sure if this mimics the final scene in the OVA, but who knows, maybe I just might be tempted to pick up the movie to find out for myself! Also, coupled with the shining/ power-infused (well, at least that's what I think it is!) "right hand/arm"-- it makes for an omnipotent-potent sight to behold. But aside from that, the coolest feature is that the right arm is also detachable, making it look like it had its arm ripped off/ damaged in the heat of battle with one of the "18 Angels" -- the mortal enemies from the series.

The main "accessory" that suits the "Berserker" head is the glowing eyes effect attachment. Ahh, yes, what would a crazed and atomic giant mecha be without its glowing eyes of utter rage --hell bent on total destruction?!

This Revoltech also comes with about 9 pairs-- yes NINE pairs of different hand gestures/ poses. While generous, I would have liked it much better if Kaiyodo had graciously included more that ONE weapon to the armory. Some blades or knifes would be a welcomed bonus. It wouldn't hurt also to include a BFG -- (A BIG F*%$ING) GUN to its arsenal. But beggars cant be choosers, I suppose!

WEAPON/ CABLE AND "HALO" ACCESSORIES

As mentioned, the lone rifle is pretty disappointing, but, together with the additional "default" normal arm it makes up for the lameness of a lack of weapons through Revoltech's signature action poses. This EVA 2.0 Type 01 Ver. also comes with a power plug and "cable" which can be hooked up to its back, plus a clear "Halo" attachment which can be placed behind its neck area.

COMPARISONS WITH THE ORIGINAL COLOURED VERSION

Essentially, Eva Test 01 Awakening Ver. shares the same sculpt as its original release from the same line. Also to note is that the original neon green and purple colour scheme came with a chock full of weapons. In addition, there seems to be no obvious variation or changes to the "default" EVA 01 head sculpt, pictured on the left. The center "horn" or antenna is still detachable for both models. Also, the similarities can allow for a cool combat diorama, Eva 01 Vs. The Test Ver. Awesome and dynamic pose, don'tcha think?!

GRATUITOUS POSER SHOTS

As seen by the variety of poses shown, EVA 01 Test Version can show off some of the most "movie accurate", outrageous poses. This, and add to an excellent overall sculpt and also super detailed parts, make this a must get for any fan of the Revoltech Series. Also, if you are into Giant Mecha Anime franchises, especially to those who dig hot chicks (who use skin tight neo-suits and look deadly but sultry while kicking a$$) -- and gigantic monsters beating the living crap and total destruction out of each other and the surrounding landscape around them, then this is worth the addition to your growing collection of Revoltechs.

FINAL VERDICT

Well, to be honest, I didn't actually know what I was really buying-- (figure and garish colour and all)-- until I did some research on the internet -- about where and when this series of Revoltechs were released. Was never really into the Evangelion craze, although was briefly introduced to it when I was a teenager... BUT having said that---with most Revoltech stuff, you can be damn 100% sure that the figures churned out is one of high quality and in terms of the unlimited (literally) number of crazy poses and positions for diorama/ photo shoot/ display purposes, count on Kaiyodo to deliver the goods. Thus, I give this awesome model a high scoring 5 / over 5 !
