WING SABER TOYZ SPOTLIGHT: BANDAI SOUL OF CHOGOKIN GX-52- SHIN GETTER ROBO #1!

Hi there folks, its a calm night for blogging, and here once again is another random posting from yours truly, WSX. Ive been gripped by Super Robot 1970's Anime fever, specifically from the creations and brain-child of Mecha designer and story teller extraordinare & genius that is Mr. Go Nagai-sama. The man is solely responsible for getting me fascinated with the Super robot Anime genre and therefore igniting my passion those huge mechanical humanoids, period. LOL!

Here in the spotlight is yet another one of his most ingenious creation to date, together with another highly talented individual, who goes by the name of the late Mr. Ken Ishikawa-san The personification which I will be blogging about is none other than the recently Bandai-Japan released Soul of Chogokin:- GX-52 Shin Getter Robo No.1 !!

Pictures and basic review LINKED, CREDITED, AND COPYRIGHTED  Amiami Japan order-page and super-robot review site:- Collection DX.

Plot

The plot involves three strong-willed teenagers from the same high school: martial artist Ryoma Nagare, rebel loner Hayato Jin and Judo master Musashi Tomoe, who pilot three specially designed combat jets which can be combined together into three different giant robots, Getter-1 (for flight combat), Getter-2 (speed advantage for ground\undeground combat), and Getter-3 (strength advantage for submarine combat). They were assembled by Prof. Saotome, who conceived the Getter Robo project as a means of deep-space exploration; it became instead Earth's first line of defense against the Dinosaur Empire, a civilization of reptile-like humanoids who evolved from the now-extinct dinosaurs that roamed the earth millions of years ago. They have lived many years underground, and they now want to reclaim the Earth as theirs and destroy humanity.
The series was groundbreaking in the anime mecha genre: for the very first time, it introduced the concept of separate machines combining to form a Super Robot. Using three jets, Getter Robo could combine in three different ways to create three different versions of Getter Robo for different conditions and situations. This idea was originally discussed during the creation process for Mazinger Z (the first Super Robot to be piloted internally), but was dropped and then developed for Getter Robo. This combination idea proved to be a very powerful concept that has been used in the super robot genre ever since.

IMPRESSIONS:-

A SUPER ROBOT WITH A CAPE! So WIN. LOL! The ingenious concept of having combining vehicular/ animalistic individual parts and robots is the catalyst for the emergence of all those super combining mecha genres. Id say that that is the reason alone to go out and try to find this excellent Soul Of Chogokin Bandai version. Solid, heavy and build to handle tough action-poses, this diecast brute is the best version to date, according to fans who have had the luxury of obtaining and fiddling with one.

WSX VERDICT:-

BANDAI SURE KNOWS HOW TO MAKE MUST-BUY CHOGOKINS. GRANTED, NOT ALL OF THEIR RELEASES HAVE BEEN HITS, AND ARE IMHO, QUITE "DELICATE"-- READ CONNECTOR JOINTS ON SOC VOLTES V, FOR EXAMPLE; HOWEVER, I THINK ITS SAFE TO ASSUME THAT IN TERMS OF QC AND DESIGN ENGINEERING, THE DESIGN TEAM FINALLY GOT IT RIGHT. EXPECT TO PAY APPROX $100 USD FOR THIS GOKIN AT THE TIME OF RELEASE. UM, THIS IS SUCH A RECOMMENDED BUY! A++

WING SABER TOYZ SPOTLIGHT: REVOLTECH YAMAGUCHI Series No 085: UFO Robo Grendeizer!

Hello there folks, this is yours truly WSX just giving YET another random musing and blog post for today. Basically, as I have previously and humbly mentioned, I will be occasionally putting up some toy and Mecha spotlights that I am particularly fond of or just having some memories of them. There is no exception to the rule of thumb, simply because im very sure that most hobbyists or collectors have their own limits, be it time and space, not to mention other real world commitments to handle, mortgages, car repayments and insurances. But im thankful that I am still able to occasionally indulge in the love for my hobby, albeit due to the fact that my circumstances are at present, rather non-committal..PHEW! ;-P

The inspirational and super influential Go' Nagai-sama!

This time, WSX would like to give a HUGE NOD OF APPRECIATION to one of the most iconic and early recognized 1970's mecha that was the catalyst for the sudden influence and inspiration for the Super Robot genre in Japan ever since.

GRENDIZER INTRO:- WIKIPEDIA

UFO Robot Grendizer (UFOロボ·グレンダイザー UFO Robo Gurendaizā?, sometimes romanizedas UFO Robo Grendizer) is a super robot TV anime and manga created by manga artist Go Nagai. It was broadcast on Japanese television from October 5, 1975, to February 27, 1977, and lasted 74 episodes.[1][2] The robot's first appearance in the United States was as a part of the Shogun Warriors line of super robot toys imported in the late 1970s by Mattel, then in Jim Terry's Force Five series, both under the title Grandizer. It is still widely popular in the Middle East and was especially popular in continental Europe and in the province of Quebec under the title, "Goldorak.

GRENDIZER GETS THE REVOLTECH TREATMENT!

I love to admire the technique which the Japanese modeling and Otaku sculptors handle the production process of certain dynamic and iconic Mecha and various characters with extreme reverence to the original source material. As with this February 2010 release, the team at REVOLTECH has yet again delivered another solid and beautiful sculpt. Basically, the Yamaguchi series epitomises a more dynamic and "jazzed-up" versions of famous Japanese characters. IMHO, quality rules the day!

PAINT SCHEME AND OVERALL IMPRESSION:-

SHARP, BOLD AND METALLIC COLOUR SCHEME. WHAT'S NOT TO LIKE?! STAYS FAITHFUL TO THE ANIME ROBOT MODEL, AND CAN AS USUAL, BE POSED IN A SUPER-DIMENSIONAL WAY..(whatever THAT means! LOL!)

MINI STATISTICS ON RELEASE:-

* 120mm tall. 17 points of articulation, 11 Revoltech joints used.
* Double Harken can be separated
* The Screw Crusher can be connected to each other
* Harkens on the shoulders can be detached. Different compatible ones are included for the weapon (Double Harken)

WSX VERDICT?
