"THUMBS UP!" WSX SEAL OF APPROVAL!

Hi there, folks, this is your truly WSX saluting my fellow followers once again. Am working to obtain more Vintage Transformers, and within these next two to three months time, Will try brokering for a  decent and non-bank breaking deal for at least two more rare and difficult to find Japanese exclusives that are no longer in the market.  Hopefully, once obtained I will be posting/ blogging about them in due course. Sit tight till then, folks! The two in question and on high priority are the Autobot Sixchanger Knight:  C-325 Greatshot, and the Destron Emperor of Chaos: D-307 Godmaster Overlord.

In the mean time, I thought id just post about the latest purchase off ebay for a steal. The collection in question is none other than an MISB "unused" 20 year toy-- Like fine wine, it certainly gets even more expensive with age-- how much did WSX pay for it, you ask?! Well, not remotely anywhere near the astronomical fee of US$ 240!! Once again, WSX is proud to add another vintage gem to his growing collection -- none other than the leader of the Micromasters/ and the one of the featured character  in the "Transformers Return of Convoy / Battlestars" continuum: C-360 Sky Garry!!

The pictures used are currently "place-holders", as the item was just bought recently. Dont worry, my dear peoples, WSX himself will be posting more of the toy when and readily available in hand.  As for right now, the box-shots are linked / credited to the ebay-seller i bought the MISB C-360 Sky Garry from.  Many  sincere thanks goes out to "THE AGABYSS" for an unbeatable, awesome not to mention reasonable offer! Translated Japanese Tech-specs are once again courtesy and credited to Jeremy_Barlow aka from soundwavesoblivion.com!

It is worth noting that neither Grandus nor Sky Garry appeared in any television / anime series in Japan.
However, their space adventures and exploits were well documented in the pages of a children's television style manga/ Japanese comic.

WSX will be giving a brief run-through of Sky Garry's robot and alternate modes, but there is a kind of an odd "anomaly" in the sense that there are very few written reviews on the toy even though it has been in the hands of hardcore collectors for ages.  Following pictures are as usual, linked and awesomely credited to www.tfuinfo.com. Many sincere thanks to them.

ROBOT MODE:

Transformation is pretty simple, as it is the pre-requisite for any Generation One Toy which was engineered before the turn of the 1990's. Starting from his Sky-Carrier Jet mode, simply fold his front cockpit upwards to form his feet. The main legs are already static. so, fold the remainder of the cockpit backwards together with the hinges for his "cargo-bays", and  finally folding sideways his front landing "skis".  Next, fold his arms  outwards, which are at the side of his vehicular mode, pull out is fists. finally, the cockpit with two lasers sticking out at the back of his jet is flipped backwards to reveal his robot head. Viola! You are complete/ successful in transforming him. Overall, a neat representation of the robot character model, although his face sculpt is rather "distorted" @ "big nose syndrome--LOL!" A-

Picture of robot mode "Death Gun Garry"  is courtesy and linked to www.collectiondx.com user shogundan. Many humble and appreciative thanks to them.

Remember how I was mentioning sometime ago in my past posts that Takara had began to ride the excess popularity of its Generation One Japan-only Transformers series/ merchandise and began to come up with another super-robot franchise by the name of Yuusha/ Brave? Well, some of their characters were rehashed/ remade exclusively into the Brave series of robots. Not surprising, then, that Sky Garry too, was re imagined as the ultimate bad-guy / arch nemesis as Death Gun Garry in the Yuusha Brave Goldran Series/ 黄金勇者ゴルドラン

SKY-VEHICULAR CARRIER MODE:

Whereas Sky Garry only came with one ramp/ vehicle trailer... Death Gun Garry has a total of three! readily packaged along together with his robot mode. Pressing the hip button, which is located on his crotch!-area hmm... actives a spring loaded action and launches the trailer ramp. Playability wise, it pretty much uses this feature to make it  a half decent jet carrier-- albeit suffering from a poor overall "jet-design". B+

SUPER BASE MODE:

Basically, his third and final alternate mode is reminiscent of toys from that particular series and era, whereby he can transform into a battle station and command base for his micromaster/ mini robot partner to maneuver. To transform him into his base mode, simply stand him on his shoulders in robot mode, and flip up his whole leg area upwards by extending it and lifting it. Extend all his hinges for the cargo area to form the micromaster's  attacking platform. His back skis act as a stabilizer, and his back ramp is pushed upwards as a sort of an "extension"/ main entrance for launching his drone vehicles/  micromaster. Finally, add one of his guns on the top tower of his base mode, and you have the final completed version. To me, while its simple and effective, its really nothing that spectacular, just functional. B+

Ill be getting Death Gun Garry in due time, folks. Just for reference / playing and overall WSX being a completists  collector!  Stay tuned!

FINAL THOUGHTS:

I'm sure everybody's expecting for WSX to give this toy a really negative overall assessment, right? Well, in a weird and truthful way, the overall feel of this toy is rather underwhelming. But that's not to say that Sky Garry is not without his "charms"-- big, clunky and mid-sized in height... Sky Garry's sticker sheet contained a phenomenal 65 decals -- not including the 4 optional star decals that one could apply anywhere on the Battlestars. Only 5 of those decals were for Shotbomber, 5 more were for the Micro Trailer, the other 50 were applied to Sky Garry. This gave Sky Garry 53 labels (including the three factory-applied ones), providing him much of his colour and detail. Plus, he has the distinction of being one of the few transformers who has  successfully manged to be translated from a non-TV serial roots and be an exclusive manga/ comic confined character. Thus, Sky Garry deserves a fair score of 3 and a half over 5!
