INTERNATIONAL TOKYO TOY SHOW 2012! TRANSFORMERS NEWS. MASTERPIECE NEWS AND EXCLUSIVES!

Hi guys and girls! Just a quick update about the ongoing Tokyo Toy show 2012 which is currently under way in Japan right now! There are the latest updates concerning upcoming Takaratomy products which have captured the excitement of many fans, however chiefly myself - along with the scores of Transformer fans from the world around are eagerly anticipating the inevitable release of the new and awesome Masterpiece toy, MP-13 Soundwave! Also as these pictures show, MP-13 will come bundled with a plethora of goodies, and as an added bonus, there will be mini-masterpiece iterations for his loyal Cassette minions, chiefly MP-Ravage, MP Frenzy/ rumble and MP-Laserbeak/Buzzsaw! Personally, I think Takaratomy's toy designers and engineers have outdone themselves and delivered a stunning product, one which was a long time coming after being initially beaten to the punch by Third-Party makers for a proper and justifiable Soundwave masterpiece toy. Well done, guys! In addition to the awesome MP Soundwave and MP-12 Sideswipe/ Red Alert news, there is also a glimpse of the aforementioned Tokyo Toy Show exclusive Clear/ Shining Optimus Prime (TF; Prime First Edition) .Just some preview pics, all liked and credited to their appropriate sourec/es for you to enjoy! Fore more news and updates, the links provided should wheat the appetites of the most fervent hobby/ toy collector!

WING SABER TOYZ UPCOMING RELEASE: BANDAI SOUL OF CHOGOKIN GX-59 = FUTURE ROBOT DALTANIUS! = (未来ロボ ダルタニアス!) = RAW POWER!

Hey there folks! It's the month of December-- the year is at an end, and the first post by yours truly WSX is a rather short one. Been keeping up with some busy and other entertaining ativities that life throws at us, and thus I do sincerely apologise for the lack of update to my blog over the past few weeks. Mainly because I was very pre-occupied with volunteering efforts at the recently concluded Aquarium Fair 2010, which was held concurrently over the course for four days at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center. Tiring but an all round stellar experience, hanging out with fellow like minded individuals who share the passion and commitment for the tropical fish rearing hobby. LOL. Enough about that, then...dont want to breo you gys with droll details! Onward to exploring the other passion which I have unfairly 'neglected' over the couple of weeks-- what else is there but to come back and talk about collecting Mecha and cool Japanese toys?!

DALTANIUS?

Not being the stable of the Go-Nagai Anime Super-Mecha genere, Daltanius for me is a rather obscure televised event in that there were no distinct memories of ever watching the show as a child. Not that it mattered, as most Super-Mecha shows of that period had meant something deep and wonderful for eahc and every child growing up in the 'Golden Age' of Japanese giant robot cartoons. The uber-awesome team of toy engineers at Bandai Japan has managed once again to turn an obscure mecha into a fine piece of art.

Future Robo Daltanious (未来ロボ ダルタニアス, Mirai Robo Darutaniasu?) was an anime series that aired from 1979 to 1980. There were 47 episodes. There are a lot of alternate spellings for the name, which includes "Dartanius", "D'Artagnas", "Daltanias" and "Dartanias". But the correct spelling should be "Daltanious" which was commonly used on the Japanese merchandise and packaging for the toys.[1] The show is one of the mecha shows which was and still remains very popular amongst Asian countries.

It is the year 1995. Earth has been conquered by an alien army from the star cluster known as the Akron. The cities of Earth have been destroyed, and the remaining survivors live in harsh shanty towns and villages. Kento, a war orphan, hides within a cave along with his companions in order to escape some bandits. In the cave, they find the secret base of Doctor Earl, who was an inhabitant of the planet Helios, a planet conquered by the Akron. Doctor Earl then fled to Earth, bringing with him the greatest achievement in Helian technology: the super robot Daltanius, whose power is increased when combined with the intelligent lion robot, Beralios. Doctor Earl entrusts the fight for Earth to Kento, who happens to be a descendant from the long disappeared Helian royal line."

FINAL THOUGHTS:

It remains to be seen if the lure of obtaining a rather rare collection piece that is the chogokin series would appeal to a casual non-fan of the genere of Bandai toys proves too strong to resist. Just to remind all you hardcore collectors out there, that there is the rather draining prospect of newer and much more anticipated Transformers releases slated for the coming 2011 year, that owinng those newer Takaratomy/ Hasbro releases would mean that the priority would surely be unmistakable. To all Chogokin fans, this ones over to you guys! Looks just as awesome as the Daltanius Mecha can come!

WING SABER TOYZ SPOTLIGHT:- SEGA JAPAN'S "BORDER-BREAK" AKA Sega Network Robot Wars (ボーダーブレイク )! MORE RANDOM MECHA?!

Hi there, once again to all those followers world-wide! This is another short blog-post by yours truly, Adam aka Wing Saber X! Today's another start of yet a very long weekend break, mainly due to it being a national holiday. This is another non-Transformers post, mainly because there are other more intriguing mecha designs out there which are not only unconventional but rather obscure to say the least. I will be focusing yet again (aside from the Virtua On post) on specific Mecha designs which have made it to plastic toy form by virtue of being yet another gaming fad-type of merchandising. As usual, the highly specialized sculptors at the renowned  Kotobukiya Japan design hobby are responsible for most of the more unconventional Super-Robots/ mecha which adorns every of the Otaku's four walls in Japan. LOL.

VIRTUA 0N 2.0?!

Well, folks, the guys at SEGA Ent. Japan sure have the expertise and know how to design really really sleek and futuristic Mecha designs, don't they?! I'm sure that some of you guys are pretty much aware that SEGA has been for awhile now,  started focusing on more lucrative tie-in's in the next gen Japanese hobby and anime entertainment scene, and the development of the Border Break Robot Wars Series looks set  to not slow down anytime soon. I applaud SEGA's efforts to keep ol' school gaming and Arcade traditions alive and kicking into the next phase.

Border Break: Sega Network Robot Wars (ボーダーブレイク Bōdā Bureiku?), is an action arcade game developed by Sega. It is the first title to run on Sega's new RingEdge arcade board and it was released on September 9, 2009.

The game premise basically focuses on robot battle through network connectivity between arcade cabinets. Two teams of ten robots will battle it out across different landscapes, which include cities, towns, and facilities. In each map, each team's goal is to destroy the opposing team's energy reactor core in order to win the match. Both cores are marked in blue and red respectively. At the end of each match, Class Points will be given to the player to level up their current rank.
The class point also affects the rank of the player. Generally, players who have just started the game will start playing in a series of cooperative battles against a computer-controlled "bots" team. The player will start facing actual opponents once when he / she has attained the rank of D4.

AWW MAN, MORE PLASTIC KITS?!

As a fan of off-beat and dynamic plastic kit mecha models, there is undoubtedly the 'thrill' and satisfaction that the most discerning and patient of those pro-hobbyist out there that would really get a kick out of completing one of these really intricate but tough to assemble plastic kit.  Iv'e never honestly and personally have any prior experience in fixing up any of those kick-ass plastic kits made by the designers at Kotubukiya. From the looks of the intricate and varied parts, this looks to be a very challenging if not potentially 'hair-pulling', not to mention a fist pounding experience. In other words, you are required I presume to have a very decent level of model kit fixing and assembly/ painting skills...

FINAL SAY:-

This is an obvious Samurai-type and mealee inspired mecha type or as the classes describe as below:-
  • Assault: This is the basic frontline soldier class, and each Assault Blast Runner can use automatic weapons like assault rifles and submachine guns. They can throw grenades, and also use a sword or spear to attack their opponents. A Blast Runner in this class equips an assault charger for high speed charges but in a short time. This class is best used from close to medium range.
for me, the overall design is dome on purpose to reflect the ninja-stealth warrior. A hint of green neon paint really helps complete all the 'Virtual' Tron', and arcade type of mecha design. The cool part is as always, the host of armaments and extra parts that come with the whole plastic kit package. This guy not only comes with a very kickass and long sword, but he has two huge guns as well as an added measure to destroy all unfortunate enemies that dare cross his path! The bottom line is, would I buy this, just for a chance of owning a 'token' and obscure Japan-only type of mecha design? Head design is pretty interesting too, playing on the part that the helmet is very stylish and Samurai inspired. I would, but please please say that either Bandai or some other excellent hobby maker make his into a fully fledged and
non- DIY type of release in the near future!!! B+

WING SABER TOYZ SPECIAL: CYBERTRON NINJA MERCENARY! C-325 GREATSHOT!

Hi there people!! This is WSX once again starting off the first week of June with yet another super blog post! Many sincere apologies that this update had taken awhile to be published, as the whole of the last week of the May month, I was just being patient and biding my time to write and produce another comprehensive spotlight and mini-review on one of the few "holy-Grail" Transformers release which is on my list of items to own.

The awesome character in question is none other than the CYBERTRON Ninja / Bounty Hunter who has a rather mysterious past, not least because his character was not really explored in the Transformers Victory anime series-- least also not to mention his addition to the fanatical and praise-worthy "holy Grail" toyline.  Yes, thats right, boys and girls, the uber ninja-warrior who is on the good side of justice and who works in tandem with the peace-loving and valiant Cybertrons is none other than the SIX-CHANGER C-325 Greatshot!

SIX MODES OF AWESOMENESS!!

Greatshot first appeared in the Transformer Victory Anime series: "Mysterious Warrior! Planet Micro"  Ive gotta admit, he made quite an entrance,  more akin to those Samurai/ Bushido wandering warriors, aw heck-- he even speaks and acts like one!!

As some of the more  dedicated members of the Transformers collecting community may be informed, the toy design for Greatshot is actually a direct translation of the Destron Ninja Warrior Sixshot. While physically similar,  there are some minor changes Takara made to the mold to make it essentially a different character all together!  I will go through, roughly, each of the modes of transformation which Greatshot can manipulate his transformer body into.  There have not been really comprehensive blogging reviews or views of this awesome six-changer, and although WSX is going to be slated for it, I have decided to link the in-box pictures for Greatshot to the Ebay seller, "Eastern Speed"

MY FAVORITE ALTERNATE MODES

A flying Rhinoceros?! Awesome! >:-P He's not only bad-ass but also it packs a wallop!! The mean beast mode that Greatshot uses to totally crush his enemies is the best mode for me.  He is similar only to Sixshot's flying panther mode, only obviously more brutal than stealthy. Although Greatshot is more wandering Samurai than a natural leader,  he still can fight beautifully and dirty at the same time! The only times which the series had ever had to showcase this might and magic fighting style was on two occasions, the after mentioned episode - " Mysterious Warrior ! Planet Micro"  and the second and last cameo -- lets face it, which honestly, doesn't say much about his character at all!! LOL! A++-- "Ambush in the Dessert!"

NINJA LASER-GUN MODE!

Gotta love his giant gun of utter coolness.  Just like his namesake, Greatshot can also transform himself into a flying gun.   He uses this mode to spray plasma lasers to wrong-foot his opponents.  While there is nothing to be seen new in this mode, its also cool to see him just float in space shooting his targets from a distance! A

JET POWER!!

Packaged in his Styrofoam box, just like his kin Sixshot in Jet-mode,  my guess is that  this is  sort of like a futuristic space cruiser. Eh.. I dunno, either way, the design is sleek. The only mold changes noticeable here are obviously, his shoulder extensions, which resembles a pair of Gatling guns, which Sixshot's mold is lacking.  I'll give my latest purchase major props just because the white on him is still minty and the fact that the design is still uber-inspiring, even for the design of its time. A++

ASSAULT-VEHICLE/ TANK

To be brutally honest, for me these two modes are not distinctive or creative enough to make them seem like another form of alternate vehicular forms . The transformation for the top version is just lacking the fire-power of the Gatling -gun shoulder mounted assault mode. below.  Lame, if you ask me. B+

BUT WHAT ABOUT ROBOT MODE?!!

Same height and weight as Sixshot's toy--Duh! Aside from the color changes, the one thing that stands out which the toymaker of that era has brilliantly, and accurately done, is the inclusion of Greatshot's "Phoenix" sigil on his remolded chest panel. Awesome little nod and dedication in the faithfulness of the mysterious status of the character itself! Mine came with little or no chrome chipping or chrome-wear, and I cant't say how chuffed I am!! A++

FINAL VERDICT:

Trivia

  • There is much fan speculation that Greatshot is an upgraded version of Sixshot. However, according the supplemental character bio included with Greatshot's toy, he is in fact a former compatriot of both Sixshot and Sixknight, who in turn were all members of the "Six Clan" that "secretly rules over the galaxy".  [1]

  • There are several similarities between Greatshot and Sixshot:

        • Greatshot is remold from Sixshot.

      • The supplementary bio also states that Greatshot frequently carries out secret ninja missions, apparently further tying him in with the "Ninja Staff Officer" Sixshot and the "Ninja Knight" Sixknight.

The above info sums up the uniqueness of this Japan Only release of the Ninja-Warrior who is sensitive to the noble cause of the Autobot war.  Any self-respecting Transformer collector fan-- (note-- by or girl-- it doesn't matter!!) ; should try and hunt down this rare gem to be added in the list of "Holy Grails" to buy.... ASAP! Id recommend that the toy should be pristine-- in the sense, pay the amount what you think is worth the weight  in gold, for Greatshot.  Mine didn't come with any of the colletrals (sticker-sheet, toy catalog and paperworks), -- but that's alright and its just a minor issue. To me, anyway, the utmost importance is that the toy and it's box are of fairly collector grade material.  Highly Recommended!! A+++
